A large storm will create a wintry mix of snow in the Northwest on Sunday and rain in the Seattle area. The surrounding mountains will have more snow. Light rain is expected farther south, down the Interstate 5 corridor.

Snow is expected to spread eastward through the northern Rockies and into the northern Plains with light accumulations. As an associated cold front pushes south through California, conditions will be mainly dry, but there will be a few snow showers in the Sierra Nevada by afternoon.

The region south and east of the San Francisco Bay Area should remain dry, but the cooler air will press all the way into Southern California.

The rest of the Southwest will be sunny with a warm afternoon. Florida and the Gulf Coast will experience unseasonable warmth with temperatures into the 80s for much of the Florida Peninsula.

A large area of high pressure will build from the central Plains through the East leading to more sunshine. Temperatures will be warmer in the Northeast in the wake of a quick-hitting storm, helping to melt recent snow.

Focus: Snow Returning to Northern U.S.

Arctic air is expected to return to the upper Midwest, the northern Plains and the Rockies this weekend, setting the stage for multiple rounds of snow into early next week.
