Rain will soak areas from northeastern Texas to southern New England on Friday, along the edge of an advancing mass of colder air. The heaviest rain is expected over the lower Mississippi and Tennessee valleys as well as parts of the southern Appalachians. This may result in flash, urban and small-stream flooding.

Very warm conditions will continue to prevail over much of the Gulf and Southeast coasts, with at least partial sunshine.

A bit of snow or flurries will develop from parts of northwestern Pennsylvania to northern Maine as colder air arrives. Most areas from the Upper Midwest to the northern and central Plains can expect a dry day, with at least some sunshine. High pressure is expected to move quickly east across the central Plains during the day and the Midwest at night.

Spotty rain will occur over southern New Mexico and southeastern Arizona as a weak storm lingers nearby. Farther north, a storm will bring drenching rain to coastal Washington and northwestern Oregon. Snow will fall on parts of the northern Rockies. Most areas from California to Colorado, Nevada, northern Arizona and Utah can expect dry weather and sunshine.

FOCUS: Unseasonably Warm Early Next Week

Record highs may be broken across the eastern United States early next week as a high-pressure system from Bermuda strengthens. Afternoon temperatures on Tuesday may climb into the 70s as far north as Pennsylvania and into the 80s in Virginia.
