RALEIGH, N.C. — While the Triangle won't see more wintry precipitation in the coming days, bitterly cold temperatures are here to stay through the weekend.

"With an arctic air mass coming in, we're going to drop back down into the teens tonight," WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel.

Thursday overnight will be clear and very cold with lows in the mid-teens and wind chills near zero.

7-Day Forecast

"Get ready for a clear, breezy, frigid night," Fishel said. "Not only do we have a weather advisory for the

icy spots and black ice, but there is also a wind chill advisory with wind chills as low as 0 to 5 during th overnight period."

Friday will stay below freezing with a low of 10 and a high of 30.

"We have a couple more days of this chilly weather, and then there are definitive signs that this is going to break," he said.

The Triangle has now passed 100 hours of temperatures at or below freezing. With the modern record being 157 hours in 1982, Fishel said there is a chance of beating that record this week.

Saturday's skies remain clear with even colder temperatures than Friday.

"It's going to be cold Friday and Saturday, but Sunday it might make it up into the mid-30s in the afternoon," he said.

Don't expect mild temperatures until next week, with highs on Monday nearing 50.

Current Temperatures, DMA

"It's going to feel great compared to the temperatures that we've had," he said.

Mondays and Tuesday's temperatures will be much milder with highs closer to 50 degrees

"There may be a little cooling on Wednesday and then it's back into the 50s on Thursday," he said.

Next Friday's temperatures will be similar to Thursday's but a few degrees colder.

"Get ready to stay cold for a while," Fishel said.
