Storms will travel from the central Plains to the Great Lakes on Tuesday. Heavy snow will cross from the northern Plains to the upper Great Lakes. A foot of snow may fall in this area. Snow and a wintry mix will extend from part of Iowa to northern New England.

Soaking rain will fall from farther south in Iowa to the lower Great Lakes, the central Appalachians and southern New England. Enough rain may fall there to cause urban flooding.

From Indiana and Ohio to northeastern Texas and southern Louisiana, there is the potential for severe thunderstorms. Some storms are likely to bring damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding. Tornadoes may also be spawned later in the day and during the early evening.

Farther southeast, a warm day is forecast for much of the eastern Gulf Coast to the southern East Coast and southern Appalachians. Spotty showers and storms are likely to develop later in the day.

Farther west, high winds will sweep across the Rockies and High Plains. The strong winds, combined with ongoing drought will raise the risk of wildfire ignition and spread over the central and southern High Plains. Much of the West can expect dry weather.

Focus: Series of Storms to Impact the West

Two storms are expected to impact the West Coast later this week with heavy rainfall and strong winds. The first storm will bring heavy rainfall to parts of Northern California on Thursday night and Friday. A second, stronger storm will affect much of the coast on Saturday.
