Wayne County woman arrested after helping animals survive Florence
Tammie Hedges was taken into custody Friday after providing care to 17 cats and 10 dogs for owners who had to evacuate before the storm hit.
Posted — UpdatedOn Monday, after Florence passed, Hedges got a call from Wayne County Animal Control regarding the animals. She willingly surrendered the animals.
According to WCNC, Hedges is the owner of Crazys Claws N Paws, a donation-based animal rescue group.
A Facebook post on the rescue's page stated that Hodges was charged because she administered medication, including antibiotics and ointments, to the animals.
Hedges was arrested and charged with 12 counts of practicing medicine without a veterinary license.
According to the Facebook post, Hedges was released on an unsecured bond of $10,000 and will appear in court in October.
