Wayne County teacher charged in 2013 Goldsboro murder case

A teacher with Wayne County Public Schools faces charges related to the fatal shooting of a Goldsboro 18-year-old in 2013, officials said.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A teacher with Wayne County Public Schools faces charges related to the fatal shooting of a Goldsboro 18-year-old in 2013, officials said.

Brittany Megan Sasser, 28, of Pikeville, was charged with accessory after the fact to murder on Thursday, the Goldsboro Police Department said.

Wayne County Public Schools said Sasser was suspended with pay on Friday.

She has been an exceptional children’s teacher at Rosewood High School since August 2016.

Sasser was held in the Wayne County jail on a $75,000 bond.

In January 2013, Shabazz Arness Woods, 18, was found dead in a yard in Goldsboro from an apparent gunshot wound. His death was ruled a homicide.

The Goldsboro Police Department said it expects additional arrests to be made in the case.
