— Carolina Beach residents reported seeing tornadoes and at least one waterspout that moved onshore as storms rolled across the area late Thursday morning.

A waterspout – which is a tornado over water – moved onto land in the 1800 block of Canal Drive, prompting a tornado warning for the New Hanover County town, according to a report received by the National Weather Service.

Observers also reported numerous waterspouts that stayed offshore in New Hanover and Brunswick counties.

Carolina Beach police reported seeing two tornadoes.

Lawn furniture and umbrellas were tossed around near the Sea and Sun Motel, on North Lake Park Boulevard, and along Carolina Beach Avenue South.

No injuries or major damage have been reported.

A survey team from the National Weather Service will travel to the area to investigate the reports of the tornadoes and waterspouts.
