RALEIGH, N.C. — A water main break on East Six Forks Road has been repaired, but officials said the road is expected to remain closed through Wednesday evening.

It was late Sunday that the water main break forced a portion of the road to close between Anderson Drive and Selby Drive near Wake Forest Road.

Officials said that although the 12-inch water main has been repaired, crews must now re-pave the road, which requires additional time.

The road is expected to open by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The water main break left 17 customers without water, but service had been restored to all but one Monday afternoon.

Heavy delays and traffic made Monday morning's commute difficult and delays are expected until the road reopens.

"It was a little challenging getting into the office this morning because I had to go into the Kroger and make a U-turn and come back out because the roads are blocked," said business owner Wanda Cooper. "Everywhere that you think about coming in, you cant' because it's blocked."

Drivers heading north on the road are advised to proceed onto Wake Forest Road and merge onto Interstate 440 to exit at Six Forks Road. Drivers traveling south on East Six Forks Road should merge onto I-440 at Six Forks Road and exit at Wake Forest Road.

Drivers can access the U.S. Post Office at 350 East Six Forks Road and nearby businesses through the shopping center entrance off of Wake Forest Road.
