GARNER, N.C. — The man accused of shooting two employees at a Garner Walgreens on Valentine's Day was ordered held Friday under a $2 million bond.

Stephen Allen Denning, 60, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Arrest warrants shed light on the shooting, which left two employees in the hospital.

Warrants allege that Denning shot Sarah Wright, the pharmacy manager who was working at the counter that day, in the chest from 3 to 4 feet away.

After shooting Wright, Denning allegedly fired again twice in her direction but missed, warrants show.

Warrants also allege that Denning shot another pharmacy employee, Brandon Gordon, in the head.

Gordon remains at WakeMed after undergoing surgery at UNC Hospitals.

A .45-caliber handgun was used in the shootings, according to warrants.

A Wake County sheriff’s deputy shot Denning after Denning fled from the pharmacy, an official said.

Authorities said he had apparently experienced some type of issue with his medication.

Denning was released from the hospital Thursday and taken to the Wake County jail. He made his initial court appearance Friday in a wheelchair.
