Warrant: Mother took her Holly Springs son to police station after realizing he was suspect in woman's murder
Surveillance video shows the deadly stabbing of Margaret Bracey, 42, outside a hemp store in Surf City, along North Carolina's east coast.
Posted — UpdatedVideo shows Michael Haywood, 22, asking Bracey about products at the hemp store. The video shows him taking out a knife and demanding that she open the cash register.
Video footage shows the armed man takes cash from the register, then stabs Bracey multiple times.
Investigators with the Surf City Police Department traced drops of blood along N.C. Highway 50 and Little Kinston Road, which was about 700 feet away from the home Haywood was staying at with his mother.
Police said Haywood has been staying with his mother for the past few months.
Haywood's mother told police he came home with his shirt wrapped around his hand and immediately went to take a shower, according to the search warrants.
She noticed he had a cut on his hand and took him to a local hospital, authorities say.
Days later, Haywood's mother saw her son's picture on the news in reference to Bracey's stabbing, the search warrant says. She contacted the Surf City Police Department and brought her son to the station, where he was detained and charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery.
Haywood remains in the Pender County Detention Center without bond.
