FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Fuquay-Varina police believe that illicit drug use might have caused the death of a woman whose grandson found her and her husband unresponsive Aug. 9, according to a search warrant released Friday.

The warrant says that a 7-year-old boy called 911, saying that he couldn't wake his grandparents at their apartment at 205 E. Ransom St. Police found Nancy Williams dead next to the kitchen stove and Leander Zane Williams lying on the couch, according to the warrant.

Nancy Williams was pronounced dead, while Leander Williams was hospitalized at WakeMed Cary.

Relatives told police the couple had a history of illicit drug use, the warrant says.

Police searched the couple's apartment for any prescription and illicit drugs, but did not seize anything, according to the warrant. The medical examiner also requested a blood sample from Leander Williams for testing.
