Temperatures will be warmer than usual this weekend, but with the mild weather comes a chance for rain.

Saturday and Sunday will all feature highs in the mid to upper 60s. Temperatures will also be warmer overnight, in the 40s and 50s as opposed to the 20s and 30s.

"It's not out of the question that we could end up hitting 80 with a little bit more sunshine," said WRAL meteorologist Kat Campbell.

Saturday will be a cloudy day with isolated showers possible in the afternoon. Outdoor plans shouldn't be interrupted until Sunday, which will be the wettest day of the weekend.

On Sunday, rain is expected to fall for the first half of the day, tapering off by lunchtime.

Campbell said rain would likely arrive around 4 a.m. through about 8 a.m.

"It ends up looking pretty good throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday," said Campbell.

Sunday will also be the mildest day of the week, with a high around 68 degrees.

On Monday, temperatures get cooler but rain stays in the forecast. Highs will be in the 50s and lows will be in the 30s, and a 90% chance for rain is in place for most of the day.

"On Monday, we have pockets of heavy rain moving through. It's with us morning into the afternoon, but it's cleared out by Monday evening," Campbell explained.

After Monday, another chance of showers returns Wednesday. Temperatures will remain in the upper 40s and low 50s, which is fairly typical for mid-December.

In total, we could see up to 2 inches of rain over the next seven days, but the stretch of time between each rain event means flooding shouldn't be an issue.
