Effective July 1, the Wake County school system will no longer identify individual students on its Web sites.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Effective July 1, the Wake County school system will no longer identify individual students on its Web sites.

The policy is designed to protect students from those who would prey on them by using information gleaned online, a spokesman said.

According to the plan, individual students will not be pictured in photos online. Groups or photos taken from a distance may be used.

Where student images are shown, only first names will be used.
