Wake Tech's fall open house event for new students goes virtual

A fall tradition at Wake Technical Community College has gone virtual during the pandemic.

Virtual events are signs of the times as schools continue to struggle meeting students’ educational needs. Virtual meetings are not Wake Tech president Scott Ralls’ preferred way of reaching new students and families.

"This is the next best thing, and we’ve worked hard to make it work," said Ralls.

"Particularly as we face an economic recovery, we think the road to recovery is going to run right through the middle of Wake Tech," said Ralls, adding that, even during the pandemic, the college’s online presence has been as strong as ever.

Last year, "Best Value Schools" ranked Wake Technical Community College as the number one online community college in the U.S.

"If you bring your dreams, we’ll let you know all the opportunities that are here," said Ralls. "Being able to be early in terms of making those applications is very important. It’s never too late, but it’s also never too early."

The virtual open house is also where students and families can ask questions with live online Q&A opportunities. Many visitors come with questions about costs and applying for financial aid.

Now is a good time to start that discussion, Ralls said.
