Wake County is changing its approach to health inspections for restaurants and other facilities.

5 On Your Side learned that a letter went out Friday telling inspectors that Wake County would suspend regular inspections of facilities like nursing homes, daycare centers, hospitals, elderly nutrition sites, elementary schools and adult day service centers.

Inspectors check those facilities for sanitation violations, just like they do with restaurants.

They say they're doing this to help limit visitors.

Inspectors will still handle complaints, when received.

5 On Your Side also learned of changes starting with restaurant inspections.

Moving forward, before an inspection even begins the inspector will make sure management has a copy of, and understands, the CDC disinfection guidelines, which include specific instructions for the use of bleach and alcohol-based solutions.

Wake County is providing CDC guidance to their facilities to reinforce the message.
