Wake sheriff fires two detention officers, charges them with assaulting inmate

Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker has fired fired two detention officers, who were later arrested and charged with assaulting an inmate in the county jail, authorities said Thursday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker has fired two detention officers, who were later arrested and charged with assaulting an inmate in the county jail, authorities said Thursday.

Terek Askew and Donnie Davis were fired Wednesday and then charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

No details about the alleged assault were released.

Both men were released on written promises to appear in court and were ordered to not have any contact with the alleged victim in the case.

Davis served as a master detention officer and had worked for the Wake County Sheriff's Office since April 2007. Askew joined the sheriff's office in November 2016.
