Wake County Public School System will host a series of magnet mini fairs for rising kindergartners and their parents.

The events each feature more than a dozen magnet schools from across the county. They are a great opportunity to meet with staff and parents from each of the schools, so you can learn more about the programs and ask any questions that you may have.

If you have a rising kindergartner, I highly recommend attending one of these fairs, but also taking the time to tour the schools you're interested in for your child.

Here's the schedule for the upcoming mini fairs:

  • 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Dec. 5, at Scotts Ridge Elementary, 6601 Apex Barbecue Rd., Apex.
  • 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Jan. 8, Oakview Elementary School, 11500 Holly Springs New Hill Rd., Apex.
  • 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Jan. 16, at Brier Creek Elementary, 9810 Brier Creek Parkway, Raleigh.
Wake schools' website has more information about each of the events, including the schools that will participate.
The magnet school application period for the 2019-20 school year runs Jan. 4 to Jan. 30.
