Hello everyone. I'm meteorologist Peta Sherwood. In the severe weather center, tropical storm Ophelia likely to make landfall this morning just south of Morehead City and north of North Toso Beach. This storm system is bringing with it winds at 70 MPH and it is going to continue to turn towards the north northwest and then eventually moving towards the north as we head into the afternoon. This center of circulation will likely weaken wind speeds associated with the center of circulation likely to come down to 50 MPH and it is going to track just to the east of Rocky Mount. We expect this to weaken into a remnant low. By tomorrow evening, the storm system is going to bring the rain and the wind up the mid Atlantic seaboard. There are tropical storm warnings in effect and that does include those counties along I 95 in our viewing area and there are hurricane watches in effect. The impacts are going to be greater where we see those hurricane watches in terms of the wind speeds and the heavy rainfall as well as storm. We are looking at the winds to gust around 40 MPH across the triangle and areas to the south outlined in that lighter orange shading and areas outlined in red are likely to see wind speeds gust around 45 MPH. The wind is howling out there. I know you guys are hearing it and we are going to continue to keep the wind speed strong throughout the afternoon. Flood watches are also in effect. This is new this morning for the triangle. We do have that flood watch in effect until nine pm. Up to five inches of rainfall cannot be rolled out, especially for some of our eastern counties. Lesser totals will be possible across our western areas. And that's because that's where we're seeing some drier air, that drier air will limit the amount of rainfall that will fall in that region. So we are going to get those showers to continue to move in on and off at times. Some pockets of heavy and steady rainfall will develop as we head into the eight and nine o'clock hour, mainly for our eastern counties. This will continue into the early afternoon and spread towards the west and keep rain around all throughout the day. It's going to be gloomy, it's going to be windy and it's going to be cool. Temperatures are remaining on the chilly side throughout the day as well. We are going to get those wind speeds to die down as we head into the overnight hours and likely to see the rain, clear out. Storm surge will be a concern along the coast up to 6 ft of water inundation will be possible there. So today is gonna be a chilly one. We're only going to make it to around 64 degrees. Then tomorrow we're gonna warm things up into the seventies heading to 82 degrees. By Monday, we do have rain building in as we head into Tuesday, temperatures will be stuck in the seventies for the rest of the week.
