WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Wake County Public Health announced Wednesday it is nearly doubling the amount of daily COVID-19 testing appointments starting Thursday. The county said there will be roughly 13,000 appointments daily across all five drive-thru testing sites.

A new drive-thru testing site will open at Word of God Fellowship Church on Rock Quarry Road Thursday morning. No appointment is necessary to get tested at the site on Thursday.

All sites are open Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will re-open after the Christmas holiday on Monday, Dec. 27. The county said the test results from these sites continue to come back in less than 12 hours and require no-cost, no ID and no insurance.

"We encourage the public to secure a testing slot if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19 and appointments for these people will continue to be prioritized," said Wake County Public Health in a statement. "Appointments for those planning to gather or travel have also been increased to help encourage the community to test to avoid spread the virus."
