RALEIGH, N.C. — The annual tussle over dollars for Wake County begins Monday, when Wake County Manager David Cooke presents his budget recommendation for the 2007-08 fiscal year.
One of the sticking points is expected to be how much to spend on schools.
The school board has requested $305 million. Cooke has said the county can afford $294 million without another tax increase.
Homeowners can already expect to pay $72 more in the next year on a $200,000 home. That increase has been coming since voters approved a $970 million bond issue for schools.
