Police say a Wake Forest woman defrauded the government to get nearly $6,500 in childcare subsidies, according to arrest warrants.

Monique Santiago, 32, of 1722 Pasture Walk Drive, was charged with childcare subsidy fraud Sunday. She was being held in the Wake County jail on a $3,000 bond.

Warrants state that Santiago, who is unemployed, lied about her employment status to get money for daycare for her two children. She allegedly provided false paycheck stubs to continue to receive public assistance, according to warrants.
