WAKE FOREST, N.C.Saving Grace NC, an animal rescue in Wake Forest, is proving true to its name for many dogs following Florence.

Many dogs were brought to the shelter after other facilities in the eastern part of the state flooded.

"They're so sweet. They just need love," said Tara Breedlove, a soon-to-be shelter dog owner.

Other dogs brought to the shelter were left unclaimed by their owners after the storm.

Molly Goldston, the founder of Saving Grace, said about 50 dogs get adopted out each week, but before Florence, Goldston and an army of volunteers started providing shelter for displaced dogs that are adoptable from as far away as South Carolina.

Goldston said some of the dogs have owners, but for the dogs that don't, they want to have room to keep them.

Alice Lee and her family visited the shelter on Friday. They were getting to know a beagle.

"I just came from one of those families that never bought an animal," she said. "There's always an animal that needs a home, and this is our family's first dog actually."

"We hope every dog gets a great home and to help as many dogs from down east as we can," Goldston said.
