RALEIGH, N.C. — All lanes of Wake Forest Road were reopened by 5 p.m. Wednesday, about six hours after police closed the street  to repair a ruptured gas main.

The gas line was damaged shortly before 11 a.m. during construction in the area, police said. The leak was capped at about 12:45 p.m., but cleanup continued into the afternoon. Northbound lanes reopened shortly after 3 p.m., and southbound lanes opened less than two hours later after a section of the road was repaved.

Police shut down Wake Forest Road between Six Forks Road and the Interstate 440 Beltline. Southbound traffic was diverted onto the Beltline to Six Forks Road, and northbound traffic was diverted onto Six Forks Road.

The exit ramp from the Inner Beltline was closed, while drivers exiting from the Outer Beltline were required to head north on Wake Forest Road.
