Wake Forest pool: No opening date yet for new aquatic complex

Wake Forest, N.C. — If you've been waiting for Wake Forest's massive Holding Park Pool complex to open, I wish I had better news for you.
The pool had been slated to open in late June or early July, but very rainy weather in June delayed those plans indefinitely.
Rains on June 10 and June 11 prevented workers from starting the final phase of the construction, which includes pouring the concrete pool deck, installing fencing and applying the remaining pool plastering.
On Monday, I checked in with Edward Austin, Wake Forest's athletics and aquatics superintendent, to find out how things were going. Unfortunately, he said officials aren't ready yet to set a firm opening date. The complex will include three pools and two water slides once it does open.
"Unfortunately, we haven’t been given a firm date for completion/opening," he told me in an email. "Last week was a good one weather-wise, which allowed the contractor to complete a large portion of the concrete work for the pool deck. We’re hopeful for an opening sometime later this summer, but at this time I’m sorry to say that I can’t say when that may be."
