WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Neighbors living in Wake Forest are on alert Friday night following a rash of car break-ins over the past few months.

Some neighbors are using social media to warn one another about the crimes.

Those living in the Bowling Green neighborhood told WRAL News they are frustrated and frightened over the two reported break-ins just this week on the same street. Often times personal belongings, money, and tools get stolen.

Video from a doorbell camera shows a stranger opening an unlocked vehicle parked on a driveway in the subdivision. After seconds of searching around, he closes the door and walks away.

Amy Gross posted the video on social media as a warning to others.

"It makes me frightened that they’ll go beyond just cars and maybe the next step is going into the houses," said Gross. "That’s really invasive."

Another video shared with WRAL News shows two people trying to enter a car. They ended up walking away when they couldn’t get in.

These acts span beyond the Bowling Green neighborhood in Wake Forest.

In March, police responded to three breaking & entering reports in town.

The number tripled in April, with nine incidents under investigation.

And this month police received four reports of breaking and entering motor vehicles, with two in Gross’s neighborhood.

Gross said the sense of security is now shaken for her and others living in town.

"I think anybody’s vulnerable," said Gross. "I'm just hoping that we’re in a good community and the police will find whoever’s doing this."

Breaking and entering in North Carolina can be charged as a felony.

A reminder from the police: Be sure to lock your doors every night, never leave valuables in your car and park in well-lit areas or in a garage if possible.
