WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake Forest fire station remains closed after a firefighter tested positive for coronavirus.

Out of an abundance of caution, the firefighter's assigned station, Fire Station No. 2 on Ligon Mill Road, has been closed since Saturday so the facility can be professionally cleaned and sanitized.

In addition, all the firefighters at the facility have been sent home and told to self-isolate.

According to Fire Chief Ron Early, the department is performing contact tracing to determine whether others may have been exposed.

There will be no interruption to fire services in Wake Forest as a result of the positive coronavirus case.

This is at least the third local fire department touched by coronavirus since August. The chief at the Northwest Harnett Volunteer Fire Department is recovering from COVID-19, and in Clayton, a 20-year veteran of the department, Jason Dean, and another firefighter's spouse died after contracting the virus.
