— Police are looking for two masked men who robbed a family of five at gunpoint outside their Wake Forest home Sunday night.

Investigators said Monday that the men, wearing ski masks, assaulted a grandfather and robbed a mother in the 200 block of Stone Monument Drive at about 9 p.m. before fleeing on foot.

The, which also included a husband and two young daughters, had closed up their local restaurant, and police said they believe the robbers targeted the family by following them home.

The grandfather, family members said Monday, is still recovering after being pistol-whipped.

Descriptions of the robbers were unavailable.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Wake Forest Police Department Tip Line at 919-435-9610. All calls are confidential.

Meanwhile, Wake Forest residents received a phone call from police warning them to be on alert and to stay aware of their surroundings, especially if they might be carrying large amounts of cash or valuables.

"It's very unnerving, very scary," Wake Forest resident Tom Wurtz said.
