Wake Forest, N.C. — Family and fans braved the cold Saturday night to welcome home the Wake Forest High School football team, winners of their second straight state football title.
The champion Cougars were accompanied by a police escort on their way back from BB&T Field in Winston-Salem and arrived just before 9 p.m.
The Cougars (15-0) have won 30 consecutive games, dating back to last season. When they won the state championship last year, it was the first time since 1987 that a Wake County team won a football title.
On Saturday, they defeated 14-0 Mallard Creek, 21-0.
Wake Forest has reached the state title game five times in the last eight years.
Alumnus and Heisman Trophy finalist Bryce Love was among those weighing in with congratulations on social media.
