RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 2-year-old boy drowned Saturday at a home in Raleigh, authorities said.

Rescue workers were called to the home in the 300 block of Martindale Drive shortly before noon, sheriff's office spokesman John Dee Jones told WRAL News.

Jones said the toddler's mother and father were babysitting at the home and preparing for a trip to the lake with their children. The mother of the boy noticed that the door to the pool was open before she saw him floating in the pool.

The boy was rushed to WakeMed, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities have not identified the victim or said if charges will be filed in the case.

Jones said the family was at the home but they apparently did not live at the residence where the drowning occurred.
