WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — With the heat expected to ramp up in the coming days, Wake County is offering you a place to cool down.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are likely to be some of the hottest days we've seen this summer. It was already 76 degrees at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The afternoons could see heat indices in the 100s.

Starting Wednesday at 11 a.m., there will be four different locations people can go inside to cool off in Wake County.

The county calls them cooling stations and they're spread out in each part of the county and open until 5:15 p.m.

  • Wake County Human Services in Raleigh (220 Swinburne Street)
  • Eastern Regional Center in Zebulon (1002 Dogwood Drive)
  • Northern Regional Centers in Wake Forest (350 East Holding Avenue)
  • Southern Regional Center in Fuquay-Varina (130 North Judd Parkway NE)

Local libraries are another place to cool off, though it’s best to check their operating hours.

If you’re needing air conditioning repairs, you could be waiting a while. Checking in with local companies, they’re in high demand.

The Salvation Army is partnering with Ace Hardware to give out more than 100 box fans. It’s happening off Capital Boulevard at the Judy D. Zelnak Center of Hope Wednesday morning at 9.
