APEX, N.C. — For months, it’s been a waiting game to see which sites in Wake County will have COVID-19 vaccines and where you can get your shot.

Now, there’s a long list of locations, including local pharmacies and grocery stores, with doses to give out.

"Our joy is when we feel like we can answer a need. Right now, the need is to get everyone vaccinated," said Dr. Cynthia Gregg, a plastic surgeon who is administering Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.

From parking lots to the PNC Arena, Wake County is branching out to provide doses of the vaccine.

Hafid Saidi Alaoui, who is waiting to be vaccinated, said having the option to get vaccinated at a nearby grocery store would be "perfect."

As the county works to make the vaccine more accessible and readily available, many agree they feel more comfortable having the option to receive the vaccine somewhere they know.

"I believe patients trust us, they know us [and] it's a safe environment," said Gregg.

Gregg said she's worked for months to get on the list for providing vaccines.

"Our typical day is not giving vaccines. Our typical day is doing facial [and] body plastic surgery and skin care," she said. "That's what we do every day, but we fit in 100 doses [of the vaccine] this week because we feel that's important about this mission."

It's a mission that many others in Wake County take seriously, including Amrish Patel, a co-owner of We Care Pharmacy in Apex.

Patel said the pharmacy goes above and beyond to make sure its patients are vaccinated.

"It doesn't matter how busy we are. We are picking up the phone. We are taking out time to talk to them, and we are taking all their information, and when their turn comes, we [take] care contacting them so it's not through email or anything like that," said Patel.

Patel said the 50 doses given to his pharmacy by the county have already been accounted for, but he hopes to get more next week.
