RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County detention officer has been fired after he was arrested in connection with a weekend assault, the Wake County Sheriff's Office said Sunday.

Marcus Hinnant, 26, of 5305 Wenesly Court, was being held at the Wake County Jail without bond after the charges were filed, the sheriff's office said in a written statement.

He was expected to make a first court appearance on Monday.

Hinnant was arrested Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a woman, the statement said.

It was not immediately clear if Hinnant knew the victim or where the assault occurred.

According to the statement, the termination was effective immediately.
