RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Animal Center will waive adoption fees for all animals for one day as Clear the Shelters wraps up.
Approved adopters can take home a dog, cat or small animal at no cost on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The shelter is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh, and a gallery of adoptable animals can be found online.

There are 16 cats, 64 dogs, 32 kittens and one rabbit at the shelter.

According to shelter officials, new animals are admitted each day, and the shelter can only hold 75 dogs.

“Animal shelters across the country are at, or near, capacity, including us, so we really need the community’s assistance to adopt, foster or volunteer to save these homeless pets,” said Dr. Jennifer Federico, director of the Wake County Animal Center. “We see more animals coming in than going out!”

August is Clear the Shelters month, so other shelters across North Carolina are offering adoption specials. Find a list.

The typical adoption fee at the Raleigh shelter is $95 for dogs, $45 for cats under five and $15 for cats older than five. All adopted animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped.
