RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Animal Center is full and is asking residents for help.

A spokesperson for the shelter said there is no more room for dogs, and euthanasia might be necessary in order to make space.

Anyone interested in adoption is encouraged to visit the shelter's website. Those who are unable to adopt are asked to post pets available for adoption on their social media.

"We don't want to euthanize for space and this plea is to make our community aware of the urgent need," Wake County Animal Center posted on Facebook. "There are only so many kennels and we need your help."

The shelter is also asking anyone who finds a stray to try and find the owner before bringing the animal to the shelter. Some ways to find an owner including asking a veterinarian to check for a microchip, posting the animal on NextDoor and TriangleLostPets.org or any local Facebook group.

Finally, anyone who needs to rehome a pet is asked to do so by posting online, asking friends and family or returning the pet where you got it from. Wake County Animal Shelter only accepts owner surrenders by appointment so the center can try and manage space.

"Every stray you help find the owner of and every pet you own and place yourself will help save the life of a pet already at the shelter," the animal center said.
