Wake board considers capping enrollment at 21 schools
The Wake County Board of Education is considering capping enrollment at 21 schools for the 2020-21 school year to prevent further overcrowding and to help reduce K-3 class sizes.

The schools being considered are:
- Abbotts Creek Elementary
- Alston Ridge Elementary
- Beaverdam Elementary
- Cedar Fork Elementary
- Combs Elementary
- Harris Creek Elementary
- Highcroft Drive Elementary
- Holly Grove Elementary
- Hortons Creek Elementary
- Lead Mine Elementary
- Mills Park Elementary
- Oakview Elementary
- Olive Chapel Elementary
- Rogers Lane Elementary
- Scotts Ridge Elementary
- Sycamore Creek Elementary
- Weatherstone Elementary
- White Oak Elementary (K-1 only)
- Mills Park Middle
- Heritage High
- Panther Creek High
Board members asked staff to consider removing the enrollment cap at Harris Creek Elementary, Heritage High and Panther Creek High. Staff members will review the list again and present any updates at a later meeting.
Board members also discussed the financial implications of capping schools. If the the cap recommendations are approved, the district would need to buy five additional buses, costing an additional $200,000 per year. Some students being moved to other schools would have an hour commute on the bus each way, Wake staff said.
The Wake school board's facilities committee also discussed the 2020 Capital Improvement Plan and the design of Fuller Magnet Elementary School.
