For the second time in a matter of weeks, a local hospital is in danger of losing federal Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.

UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill was placed on "immediate jeopardy" following an inspection last month which was prompted by a complaint. Inspectors cited the hospital for four violations, including violating patients’ rights and infection control problems.

The hospital has until July 23 to submit a corrective action plan and be reinspected.

"We have developed a full corrective action plan, which has already been accepted by regulators. A follow-up survey of the hospital will be conducted in the coming weeks to confirm that our action plans are in place and effective," a hospital spokesman said.

Earlier this month, Wilson Medical Center in Wilson received a similar warning from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
