In 1961, eastern North Carolina was nearly blown off the map when a military plane crashed and dropped a hydrogen bomb on the tiny Wayne County town of Faro. Part of the bomb is still there today, and recently, a crowd gathered to dedicate a highway marker to the infamous nuclear mishap.
