Disc golf pioneer now plays throughout Surry County

It all began on Jan. 13, 1957, when the Wham-O Company began producing the Pluto Platter, later known as the Frisbee. George Sappenfield, of Surry County, is a disc golf pioneer. He came up with the idea when he was a recreation leader, trying to think of activities people could do at playgrounds.
