Wake County cafeteria workers plan 'sick-out'
Gerald Deborah we're talking about 32 schools in the state's
largest school district impacted by this sick out now
School officials say that they are making every effort to
make sure that these students are Fed but there's no
guarantee that the food service will be offered tomorrow
Some parents received this text message tonight which reads in
part due to staff shortages at your child's school
No meal services on Tuesday
This message caught many families off guard and comes on
the heels of Wake County schools
Bus drivers stick out that lasted two full days at
the end of october some 160 busses were left without
drivers tonight
I spoke with Christina jones
Her Children attend briar Creek Elementary
It's one of the 32 schools impacted by the sick
out
She tells me that she and other parents are working
on collecting food items like fruit and sandwiches for Children
who really need them
All these Children they need to have full bellies because
otherwise why what do they get why reading in school
they can't learn if they can't focus and they can't
focus it again they don't eat
Now this impacts a lot of those low income families
with Children who have really depend on getting their nutrition
from the school
We will be watching closely how the board of education
addresses this matter during their meeting tomorrow
Back to you erin thomas live in Raleigh
Thank you erin I'm Mark boiling the WRL Live center
The information parents the students want to know on our
website WRL dot com on our app
You see this blue logo right there
All you have to do is tap on that and
you'll see that entire list that Aaron was just talking
about
This is the headline here tonight
Wake county warns cafeterias sick out could affect the meal
service
Many schools already updating their website in the information right
here
This is from Oak View Elementary it's likely your Children's
school will be unable to provide regular meal service on
Tuesday late tonight
I did speak with keith sudden the chair of the
school board and ask them what they're doing tonight to
make sure Children do have food tomorrow
Well we're asking you know that if they can uh
you know send students to school with a meal um
you know with food a pack of sandwich or lunch
or what have you uh were put into contingency plans
in place uh now so that students will not go
without food uh tomorrow
And I press sudden little bit asking what those contingency
plans look like as they work through them right now
It could be as simple as just ordering in pizza
for students
And if there's no pizza available nearby they could go
to a restaurant and do take out but they are
working right now to make sure there is food on
the table for lunch tomorrow
This definitely is going to evolve overnight as we get
new information and the list that's updated on our website
could grow our morning team
