Video indicates Tesla driver shouldn't have been charged
After an arrest was made, video appears to show a Tesla driver didn't hit a Maryland crossing guard after all.
last thursday evening, joe Hernandez was arrested by an Arrundell County sheriff. He was put in handcuffs in front of his girlfriend and her child and taken to jail where he spent the night locked up based on a press release from the and Arrundell County police, it was widely reported that he had assaulted a school crossing guard by intentionally striking her with his blue Tesla in charging documents. Hernandez is accused of seven violations including failure to render aid to an injured person, reckless driving and negligent driving. So today his lawyer asked him not to make any public statements. Hernandez claims it is all false and we've uncovered video that seems to back him up. It was last thursday in glen burnie, that's Hernandez in the blue Tesla, he has fully stopped until the crossing guard motions him forward to allow a car by then he stops again. Moments later, the crossing guard backs herself near his bumper. He backs up, There is an exchange of words. The police officer identified in court documents as Detective Hillier walks over, there are more words and then Hernandez drives slowly away. There is no sign of an injury or assault or reckless driving and no attempt by the police officer to stop him. This morning, we arrived at that busy intersection to find the crossing guard. An officer on duty. I asked the guard whose name hasn't been made public if she stands by her story, I'm not gonna say anything, I let everything speaks for itself. I don't now off camera. The crossing guard admitted to me that the car didn't exactly hit her. In her words. She said the car touched her body the back of her leg. In the video, you can see the Tesla never moves forward and in fact backs up. When the crossing guard turns around, this woman witnessed much of the encounter, I saw the car and close to her. That's it. Didn't hit her. Oh yeah, I saw the car close to her very close. Hernandez has retained an attorney who says the charges are entirely false. A spokesperson for the entire L. A. County police says they are aware of the video and are investigating in Glen Burnie Brad Bell seven News.
