GREENVILLE, N.C. — Vidant Health is telling employees nearly 200 workers will be laid off because of a budget shortfall.
In an email obtained by NBC affiliate WITN, Vidant Chief Executive Dr. Mike Waldrum said the first steps to eliminate the shortfall was to reduce costs, implement operational efficiencies and to discontinue recruitment.

"Today, we are announcing the difficult decision to implement a workforce reduction, which includes separating 191 team members," Waldrum said in the email.

The email is not clear whether the layoffs are just at the main hospital in Greenville or spread across the hospital system.
