Fayetteville, N.C. — Fayetteville police on Wednesday identified the man shot in a Walmart parking lot and reported that he was hospitalized but expected to recover.
Douglas Heckler, 55, of Fayetteville, was shot just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday at a bus stop near the Walmart at 2820 Gillespie St.
Police have yet to identify any suspects in his shooting.
A man arrested after a brief chase that started at the Walmart is not connected to the shooting, police said.
Police followed a vehicle matching the description from the shooting report and, when the driver did not immediately pull over, chased him to the area of Chicken Foot Road and I-95 (exit 41). There they arrested Billy Faircloth, 35, of Clinton, on a charge of speeding to elude arrest. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
Police are still investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
