A Vance County man was charged Wednesday in the shooting death of his cousin, authorities said.

<b>HENDERSON, N.C.</b> — A Vance County man was charged Wednesday in the shooting death of his cousin, authorities said.

William Keith Wade, 53, was shot once in the head in the driveway of 318 Horseshoe Bend Road shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday and died at Maria Parham Hospital, authorities said.

Michael Elmo Wade, 50, of 490 Horseshoe Bend Road, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held Thursday in the Vance County Jail with no bond.

Authorities said a brief altercation between William and Michael Wade, who were cousins, escalated into gunfire.

Michael Wade surrendered to Vance County deputies at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
