US 70 reopens after pedestrian crash near Clayton High School

All westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 70 are closed near downtown Clayton after a pedestrian accident.

CLAYTON, N.C. — All westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 70 were closed near downtown Clayton Friday morning after a pedestrian accident.

The crash was reported near Robertson Street, close to Clayton High School, around 7 a.m. The lanes reopened by 8:30 a.m.

The Clayton Fire Department posted on Facebook that the crash involved a car and a pedestrian.

WRAL News is working to learn who was hit and their condition.

It is not confirmed that a high school student was involved, but numerous people commented on the Facebook post expressing concern about a crosswalk and safety in that area.
