US 1 reopens in Cary after motorcycle crash, police say driver was being reckless

CARY, N.C. — A motorcyclist was seriously injured Friday in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 1 in Cary.

Cary police said the motorcyclist was driving in a careless and reckless manner, and police are investigating another motorcyclist who left the scene before speaking with officers.

Around 9 a.m., Cary police were called to U.S. 1 North in reference to a crash involving a motorcyclist and a car.

Investigators closed two northbound lanes of U.S. 1 at Walnut Street, near Exit 101 and Crossroads Plaza, as part of this investigation. At noon, traffic was moving slowly and backed up at least one mile, but all lanes reopened around 2 p.m.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car was not injured.
