Drivers fail to slow for stalled car, creating 13-vehicle chain-reaction crash on US 1 in Apex

APEX, N.C. — A crash involving multiple cars closed the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 in Apex on Monday.

According to Trooper N.D White with the State Highway Patrol, the chain-reaction crash involving at least 13 vehicles started when drivers failed to slow for a stalled car.

At least three people were transported to WakeMed in Cary and Apex with minor injuries.

According to officials, at least three people have been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

By 9 a.m., all lanes had reopened, but major delays remained for hours.
