RALEIGH

Hannah's War By Jan Eliasberg
Sunday, March 15th at 2pm @ Quail Ridge Books
A "mesmerizing" re-imagination of the final months of World War II (Kate Quinn, author of The Alice Network), Hannah's War is an unforgettable love story about an exceptional woman and the dangerous power of her greatest discovery.

Berlin, 1938. Groundbreaking physicist Dr. Hannah Weiss is on the verge of the greatest discovery of the 20th century: splitting the atom. She understands that the energy released by her discovery can power entire cities or destroy them. Faced with an impossible choice, Hannah must decide what she is willing to sacrifice in pursuit of science's greatest achievement.

New Mexico, 1945. Returning wounded and battered from the liberation of Paris, Major Jack Delaney arrives in the New Mexican desert with a mission: to catch a spy. Someone in the top-secret nuclear lab at Los Alamos has been leaking encoded equations to Hitler's scientists. All signs point to Hannah as the traitor, but over three days of interrogation that separate her lies from the truth, Jack will realize they have more in common than either one bargained for.

Jan Eliasberg is an award-winning writer/director. Her prolific directing career includes dramatic pilots for CBS, NBC, and ABC, such as Miami Vice and Wiseguy; countless episodes of television series, including Bull, Nashville, Parenthood, The Magicians, Blue Bloods, NCIS: Los Angeles, Supernatural, and dozens of others; as well as the feature film Past Midnight, starring Paul Giamatti, the late Natasha Richardson, and Rutger Hauer.
Crimson Letters: Voices from Death Row By Tessie Castillo
Sunday, March 15th at 4pm @ So & So Books
Tessie Castillo is an author from Raleigh, North Carolina. Her first book, Crimson Letters: Voices from Death Row, is an autobiographical account of her unusual friendships with four men on Death Row, whom she met while volunteering in North Carolina’s Central Prison in 2014.
Through thirty compelling essays written in the prisoners’ own words, Crimson Letters offers stories of brutal beatings inside juvenile hall, botched suicide attempts, tender good-byes before execution, and the small acts of humanity that keep hope alive for men living in the shadow of death.

Contributors will be calling in from Central Prison's Death Row.

Monday, March 16th at 10:30am @ Quail Ridge Books

Fire Truck vs. Dragon By Chris Barton, Shanda McCloskey (Illustrator)
Thursday, March 19th at 6:30pm @ Quail Ridge Books

It's the wackiest rivalry ever, when the fire-breathing ruler of the skies and the fearless fire truck go head-to-head in an epic battle of fire vs water! Who will win? Can a Fire Truck and a Dragon be friends? Find out in this new companion to the household favorite Shark vs. Train!

Chris Barton will also talk about All of a Sudden & Forever: Help and Healing After the Oklahoma City Bombing.

A profoundly moving nonfiction picture book about tragedy, hope, and healing. Those who survived--and those who were forever changed--shared their stories and began to heal. Near the site of the bomb blast, an American elm tree began to heal as well. People took care of the tree just as they took care of each other. The tree and its seedlings now offer solace to people around the world grappling with tragedy and loss.

On the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, this book commemorates what was lost and offers hope for the future.

This event is for people ages 3 and Up.

PLEASE NOTE: To avoid the close contact of a signing line, this author will be pre-signing books. There will be no signing line following the event. If you would like your book personalized, please contact the store ASAP with your information.

WAKE FOREST

Blackwood By Michael Farris Smith
Friday, March 13 at 6:30pm @ Page 158 Books
Michael Farris Smith’s Blackwood is a beautiful, pulsing, living-breathing-thing of a novel; a dark story that stayed with me long after I finished it. At first glance, Blackwood appears to be about a small town on the brink of economic collapse and the lost souls brought together by their shared inability to escape. But at its core, Blackwood reveals for us the intrinsic loneliness of life and the small moments of connection that bring us hope. The world of Blackwood is a cruel one – unflinching and unyielding in the way it tests the mettle of its inhabitants. But shining brightly against this stark backdrop is how human connection - or the lack of it - informs everything around us. Michael Farris Smith has given us a beautiful work of literary fiction with threads of the best and darkest parts of crime fiction woven throughout.
Michael is a native Mississippian who has spent time living abroad in France and Switzerland. He is the recipient of the 2014 Mississippi Author Award and has been awarded the Mississippi Arts Commission Literary Arts Fellowship, the Transatlantic Review Award for Fiction, and the Alabama Arts Council Fellowship Award for Literature. His short fiction has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and his essays have appeared in the New York Times, Catfish Alley, Deep South Magazine, and more. He lives in Columbus, Mississippi, with his wife and two daughters.

CHAPEL HILL

Thursday, March 19th at 7pm @ Flyleaf Books
Meeting Comics is an R-rated comic strip. Its started as a gag comic about work and has evolved into a gag comic soap opera about people who work together. It's funny, and it's dark sometimes, but it's got heart.
Andrew Neal is the former owner of the Eisner Award finalist comic shop Chapel Hill Comics, which he sold in 2014. He lives in North Carolina with his wife/editor Vanessa and his cat Eensy Weensy. He now makes comic books instead of selling them. Meeting Comics is his first book.
