Union County mother charged with abducting her child

An infant girl from Union County was found safe early Saturday shortly after an Amber Alert for her was issued, authorities said.

MARSHVILLE, N.C. — A Union County mother accused of abducting her infant daughter was arrested Saturday night.

An Amber Alert was issued for 5-month-old Ashuari Nyashia Rushing, of Marshville, at midnight Friday and canceled around 2 a.m. Saturday, when authorities found the child unharmed.

Melissa Ann Rushing, 23, was still at large when Ashuari was found.

She was arrested around 10 p.m. Saturday at a house on Forest Lane in Monroe and charged with abduction of children. She is currently being held in the Union County Jail.
