RALEIGH, N.C. — The owners of The Cardinal Bar have plans for two new ventures in downtown Raleigh.

Jason Howard and Dan Murphy plan to open the underground speakeasy the Atlantic Lounge in the Oakwood area at 620 N. Person St. this summer.

"It will be a membership only club. We will be allowing members to have keys to come and go as they please," Howard said Friday. "It will be an opportunity for Oakwood and surrounding area residents to take ownership of their own space."

The small space houses just under 50 people and is accessible through a foyer between Pelagic Beer and Wine and Crawford and Son.

Howard said the two are also planning to open the Rainbow Luncheonette in the old Rainbow Upholstery Building at 911 N. West St. Howard said they have leased a less than 1,000 square-foot space that they will turn into a short-order counter.

"It is kind of an old school lunch counter," Howard said.

Look for it to serve breakfast and lunch during the week, and add dinner service on the weekends.

Rainbow Luncheonette is looking to open in spring 2019.

The Cardinal Bar, which boasts a sneaky good hot dog, opened at 713 N. West St. in December 2016.
