Wilmington, N.C. — Officials at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will cancel classes and are issuing a mandatory evacuation starting Tuesday because of Hurricane Dorian.
Officials said classes would be canceled the rest of this week after Monday. Students must be evacuated from the campus by 5 p.m. Tuesday. Students who are not in Wilmington due to the Labor Day holiday are encouraged not to come back until after the storm is gone.
The storm is expected to reach North Carolina at some point Thursday.
In addition, all university-sponsored athletic events are canceled as of 5 p.m. Tuesday. The campus will operate under regular hours Tuesday until the evacuation takes effect.
